Lotus blossom season has arrived at Lake Shinobazu in Ueno Park!
Summer in Tokyo has a charm all its own, and one of the most evocative sights is undoubtedly the blooming of lotus flowers at Lake Shinobazu, in the heart of Ueno Park.
📸 The photos below were taken on July 10, 2025: the first flowers have already bloomed and the lake is slowly transforming into a sea of green and pink. In the background, you can admire the Bentendo Temple, dedicated to the goddess of art, wisdom, and wealth, Benzaiten.
A tradition rooted in history
The lotus flowers of Lake Shinobazu have a long history: it is said that they were growing here as early as 1677, bringing beauty and spirituality to the landscape. Today, as then, this bloom is eagerly awaited by visitors and photographers.
🌸 When to see the flowers?
The flowering period extends from mid-July to early August, but the best time to admire them is in the early morning: the lotus flowers open at first light and close again in the afternoon.
